Education tradition for materials processing engineering are strongly connected by the appearance and development of metallurgy in our country, at beginning in archaic form (Iron Age, Bronze Age) and then in the modern structure.

The development of processing the metallic and ceramic materials leads to the creation of several enterprises on the entire territory of the country, producing billets and parts destined for economical and social activities.

Modern requests of engineering education for efficient procession and production of new materials with special characteristics imposed the conversion of Plastic Deformation department in Materials Processing Engineering department. In fact, this department continues the tradition for hot procession in Romania, since 1958. The name was changed successive in Equipment and Hot Processing Technology (1960), Machines and Equipment for Hot Processing (1968), Technological Equipment (1978), respectively Materials Processing Engineering (1998).

The task of Materials Processing Engineering department is to offer high quality education, in order to develop intellectual abilities, moral character and special knowledge for students, as essential premises to form good engineers, capable to develop and to implement engineering projects in the productive activity of materials processing.
